  • Acknowledge and award as many members as possible for the contributions to the growth and success of the chapter.
  • Offer full or partial scholarships to each qualified application to attend the national conference by evaluation of our silent auction program and other fundraisers.

Chapter History

The SGMP North Texas Chapter (formerly Dallas Chapter) was chartered with 25 members on October 8, 1987.  JoAnn Murrell, U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, was the first President of the chapter. Cindy Brown, U.S. Department of Labor, OASAM, was the President Pro Tem during the first term. During that time, the chapter published a weekly newsletter!

In 1992 with only 50 members, the chapter hosted the Chapter Presidents’ Roundtable (CPR), providing complimentary lodging, meals, and entertainment. This was a major accomplishment at the time and earned the chapter national recognition.

The Dallas Chapter hosted the SGMP National Education Conference in Grapevine,Texas, in May 1996.  Over 750 members from 23 chapters attended the highly successful conference that focused on cutting edge technology. The chapter was responsible for the majority of the conference, not having a national headquarters staff at the time.

Since 1997, the chapter has furnished scholarships for chapter members to attend national conferences.

From 1993 until the award ended, the chapter was in competition for the Chapter of the Year Award, and won twice.  The chapter has also been in competition for the Program of the Year, winning with “Meeting Planning Nightmares” and placing several times as well. The chapter has also competed for Newsletter of the Year, winning three times, and placing once.

Annually since 1995, the North Texas Chapter (then Dallas Chapter), and the Texas Lone Star Capital chapter have jointly hosted a Partners in Education conference. The Wild West and Houston Gulf Coast Chapters have joined this regional conference as well. The San Antonio Alamo Chapter joins the group for the 2013 conference.
